About the Ultimate Mercy Guide
One of my greatest passions in life is video games. My fondest memories growing up are of sitting on my dad’s lap, as he taught me about his favorite games, which included games such as Resident Evil 4, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, and System Shock 2. Because of my dad’s specific tastes, I was sheltered from the world of online multiplayer games up until my late adolescent years and even adulthood. Like so many others in my predicament, my first step into that world was through Overwatch. Overwatch was, and still is, one of the most successful and critically acclaimed video games of all time, and for good reason. With its Avengers-style plot and colorful cast of characters ranging from a freedom-fighting disc jockey to a mech-piloting hamster, it appeals to nearly every person, including me. Although I really didn’t know anything about multiplayer games, I was able to find a character for me, and that character was Mercy—the angelic combat medic. And now, I have spent nearly 4 years climbing the ranks of competitive Overwatch playing mostly Mercy, and I made this guide to share some of my knowledge with everyone!
The beauty of Mercy is that she can appeal to nearly every player. I went into Overwatch with very little knowledge of other multiplayer first-person shooter titles of the era and had a lot of trouble finding my footing in the game until I discovered Mercy. One of Mercy’s most obvious strengths is that she is very friendly for new players, as she doesn’t require the same level of mechanical skill and aim as other characters in the game. But even so, she is an extremely versatile and impactful character within the bounds of the game and can be molded to fit any playstyle. Even though her impact is a hot topic within the Overwatch community, I aim to show them that she is a staple of the support class, and she is just as, if not more, useful and impactful as the other characters who share her class.
