- Damage boosting Ashe's Dynamite is absolutely high-priority when playing with an Ashe. Not only does it give you and Ashe charge for your ultimate abilities, but it also increases the damage of the Dynamite itself.
- Ashe is one of the most potent damage dealers in the game, making her almost always a great target for damage boost, especially when hitting consistent headshots, which can wipe out any lower-health hero on the enemy team.
- Ashe's Ultimate B.O.B. is a fantastic damage boost target if he can be reached and is in a good spot to hit multiple enemies. Always try to damage boost him if possible.
- Coach Gun can be used to propel Ashe upward, which she will often use to get to high ground. Since Ashe will usually be on high ground, she is an excellent target for Guardian Angel to allow Mercy to escape fights.
- For the same reasons that make her a powerful ally, she is also an extremely formidable enemy, especially when paired with a Mercy.
- If she is being damage boosted or not, stay out of her line of sight so she cannot get a headshot on you. If it lands, it will kill Mercy.
- Dynamite is easily avoidable due to the loud audio cue. Ashe will likely target grouped-up teams, so as long as you stay away from your team, it likely won't hit you.
- B.O.B. is a very powerful Ultimate when against a hero who flies, Mercy included. You will want to avoid him at all costs by hiding behind cover. Natural cover is always recommended over a tank's shields unless absolutely necessary.
- The "bunker" strategy that utilizes Bastion often also uses Mercy, making them an excellent match.
- Damage boosting a Bastion who is situated behind cover or a shield will make it easy for him to melt the enemy team, but this also puts a huge target on Mercy's back.
- Saving Resurrect for Bastion when using the "bunker" strategy is highly recommended since he will be the main target for the enemy team and is likely to die first in the fight.
- Bastion has a self-heal, which makes him low-priority for healing, especially when not using the "bunker" strategy.
- Always stay behind cover when the enemy team is playing Bastion. If you're caught in the open, he will quickly kill you due to Mercy's low health pool.
- While in Valkyrie, it is possible to kill a Bastion using Mercy's blaster, especially if he is at low health and has already used Self-Repair. However, this is extremely risky to attempt without coordination.
- Doomfist will usually be more aggressive, so it can be hard to keep up with him during a fight. But at the beginning of a match, if he is pushed further forward than the rest of your team, you can push up with him with damage boost and possibly get the first pick in a fight.
- Because of his close-combat nature and Mercy leaning more towards the backline, he can be a difficult target to reach for both healing and damage boost. Using communication is essential here if you want to get the most out of your Doomfist.
- Mercy is an extremely strong counter against Doomfist. Mercy's high mobility allows her to easily escape a Doomfist before he can kill her. With good awareness, you can hear or see a Doomfist trying to close the gap and fly to a teammate out of harm's way using Guardian Angel.
- Doomfist's strong point is being able to easily get picks, which is heavily countered with Mercy's Resurrect.
- Echo is a hero that is often in flight. Because of her ability to fly, Mercy can follow her by repeatedly using Guardian Angel and Angelic Descent to stay in the air.
- Because of her extremely high damage output and ability to fly, Echo makes a great "pocket" target, meaning Mercy focuses her healing and damage boosting beams on one hero for an extended period of time. As long as there is another support with high healing output on the team, this is a good strategy to use to turn fights in your favor.
- Echo's Ultimate allows her to duplicate any hero that is on your team, besides another Echo, and quickly get their Ultimate. As long as you watch carefully for who she duplicates, you should be able to avoid the abilities and Ultimate for whoever she duplicates.
- Since Echo is another flight-oriented hero, using Valkyrie may allow you to kill her with your blaster. However, she is extremely mobile and may be able to escape you more easily than, for example, Pharah.
- Much like Doomfist, Genji will usually be more aggressive, so it can be hard to keep up with him during a fight. But at the beginning of a match, if he is pushed further forward than the rest of your team, you can push up with him with damage boost and possibly get the first pick in a fight.
- It is a good strategy to save Valkyrie for Genji's Dragonblade, especially when Genji receives Ana's Nano Boost, which gives him a very large boost in his damage output.
- Genji will try to harass your backline as much as possible, giving him the means to easily kill you. Staying on high ground will allow you to avoid him for a short time since he will eventually see you and use Cyber-Agility to climb the surface you're on. When he uses this, you can use Guardian Angel to fly to a teammate out of harm's way.
- You will likely be a high-priority target when Genji uses Dragonblade. There is very little you can do to avoid this without the help of a defensive ultimate like Lucio's Sound Barrier or Zenyatta's Transcendence. Using Valkyrie to fly upwards and avoid Dragonblade is a valid strategy to make sure you survive, but it is best saved if two or more teammates die to his Ultimate.
- Because of Hanzo's high damage output, he is a very solid target for damage boost. If he lands a headshot, it is a guaranteed kill on an enemy.
- Like his brother, Genji, Hanzo can also climb up walls, giving him easy access to high ground. Mercy can use this to her advantage by using Guardian Angel to a Hanzo on high ground to escape the fight below.
- Mercy is an easy target for Hanzo if you're not paying attention. Staying behind natural cover and your tank's shield is highly recommended when going against a good Hanzo. You will want to resist the urge to use Guardian Angel haphazardly when there is a Hanzo on the field.
- Always be mindful of Hanzo's Sonic Arrow because if he sees you, he will not hesitate to take you out if you leave the comfort of cover.
- Hanzo's Dragonstrike can be easily avoided as long as you are playing far away from your team. It is also a slow-moving Ultimate, allowing you to easily hide or fly away from it if you see it coming.
- Junkrat's Concussion Mines can be used to propel himself in the air, making him an easy way for Mercy to become airborne/get to high ground.
- Due to the nature of his Frag Launcher, Junkrat will often be on high ground, making him a good target for Guardian Angel when in a pinch.
- You should aim to damage boost Junkrat as often as possible because his projectiles do both direct-hit and splash damage, which will further increase his damage output.
- If you step in Junkrat's Steel Trap, you will not be able to use Guardian Angel to escape, so it is best to keep a watchful eye on any traps he places.
- It is also best to stay on high ground since Junkrat will most likely be sending his projectiles towards the ground.
- You won't have any luck trying to out-heal whatever damage your teammate is taking from Junkrat, so it's best to get behind cover or a tank's shield than to try healing a teammate fighting with Junkrat.
- Since McCree is often flanking, it is usually best not to follow him, but when he is with the rest of the team, he makes an excellent target for damage boost.
- If he can be reached, damage boosting Deadeye can easily kill an entire team.
- McCree is one of Mercy's strongest counters. It is generally best not to play her against him, but not impossible.
- McCree renders Mercy's flight useless, as he can easily shoot her out of the sky, especially during Valkyrie.
- He can also use Flashbang against you in close-combat, stunning you out of Resurrect or Guardian Angel.
- Mei is another extremely self-sufficient hero. She has a great self-heal so she is usually low-priority for healing. However, she can make a very good target for damage boosting if no other potent damage dealer is around.
- When Mei uses Blizzard, this can be a good opportunity for Mercy to pull out her blaster to help finish off enemies at low health.
- Mercy can be easily taken out by Mei with the combination of her freeze and projectile, especially if she lands a headshot. But because of Mercy's mobility, if you see a Mei coming your way, you should be able to fly away to another teammate if she doesn't use her Ice Wall to block you off.
- Mercy can out-heal Endothermic Blaster's primary fire, and she may even be able to out-heal an icicle to the head, as long as Mercy keeps her healing beam on Mei's target.
- Playing away from your team should keep you out of Mei's Blizzard. Keep track of Mei's Ultimate in your head so you know when she's close to using it to better avoid getting caught in the icy trap.
- Pharah is arguably Mercy's best match-up. Pharah's ability to fly and her huge damage potential, she makes one of the best "pockets." But be warned, when "pocketing" a Pharah, you are extremely vulnerable to heroes who are especially strong against heroes in flight (McCree, Widowmaker, Torbjorn, etc).
- When Pharah is using her Ultimate, it can be a good idea to briefly fly in front of her, acting as a shield to her, since she is extremely vulnerable while in this state.
- When following Pharah in the air, try to stay behind cover as much as possible to minimize the target on yourself.
- Pharah has an extremely long range, allowing her to take you out fairly easily, especially if you're isolated. You want to stay out of her line of sight as much as possible.
- Because Valkyrie lasts a long time compared to other Ultimates, you can try to take down Pharah with your blaster while you're in the air. Using Valkyrie purely to take down Pharah is also a valid strategy if your team is struggling to defeat her, or you lack hitscan DPS heroes on your team (such as the beginning of a match before your team can switch).
- If you are out of range of her Ultimate, you can also try to take down Pharah as she's ulting with your blaster.
- Since Reaper's self-healing is based on the amount of damage he deals, damage boosting him can greatly increase his survivability.
- Reaper's Death Blossom is a very powerful Ultimate when targeting grouped-up enemies, so damage boosing him while ulting is usually a good idea, especially when you're situated on high ground or in the middle of Valkyrie.
- Since Reaper does more damage than Mercy can heal, it is usually best to leave if your teammate is fighting a Reaper. You can damage boost them at a range, if you think it is a winnable fight, otherwise, you're better off getting to safety.
- Reaper can use Wraith Form and Shadow Step to ambush you/your backline easily, so you should listen for audio cues when going up against a Reaper.
- Reaper's range is close-combat oriented, so you should be relatively safe when far away from him, and if he comes after you, as long as a teammate is close by, you should be able to escape him.
- If you are far enough away while Reaper is using his Ultimate, using your blaster could be worth it to kill him, especially if he is at low health.
- Soldier: 76 is a long-range hero with a fast rate-of-fire, making him a great damage boost target throughout the course of a match.
- Mercy can damage boost Soldier's Helix Rockets, which can one-shot lower-health enemies with the click of one button, but this requires some communication with your Soldier to pull off consistently.
- Soldier's Ultimate is also completely boostable by Mercy, which can be devastating to the enemy team if Soldier is able to lock-on to multiple enemies.
- Soldier's Tactical Visor is especially powerful when Mercy ults, sinc lock-on to her while she's midair. To avoid this, it is always best to stay behind natural cover while using Valkyrie against a Soldier.
- Helix Rockets can take down Mercy in one shot. Make note if you see him use this ability often, and stay out of range to minimize danger.
- Probably the most self-sufficient hero in the game, she is extremely low-priority for healing and damage boosting.
- You mostly want to stay out of her way. Accidentally healing or damage boosting her while she is in stealth will give away her position, making her a huge target.
- If possible, it is best to avoid playing Mercy when there is a Sombra on your team.
- Sombra's Hack, as well as her Ultimate EMP, will interrupt all of Mercy's abilities, completely negating all of her utility. She will not be able to Resurrect dead allies, fly to safety using Guardian Angel, or use Valkyrie for .65 seconds.
- Symmetra can be a good target for damage boost, but she is extremely powerful on her own, so your time is most likely better spent with another hero on your team.
- She is most commonly used for her teleporter, which can allow your entire team to teleport directly to a point, which can be a death sentence for Mercy since she is usually the weakest hero on the team and a high-priority target. It is best not to play Mercy when using this strategy.
- Symmetra's turrets will slow you down a lot and kill you very easily, so look out for teammates who run into these, and make sure you don't follow them into this trap.
- Try to stay as far away as you can from Symmetra herself, because her Photon Projector ramps up the damage the longer it is locked on to you. If she sets her sights on you, you will want to escape immediately using Guardian Angel. If your teammate is the one in her sights, it can be worth it to damage boost them to take her out quickly before her damage ramps up.
- Mercy has the advantage of being able to heal behind enemy barriers, Symmetra's included. If your teammate is on the other side of Symmetra's Photon Barrier, you will still be able to heal them or damage boost them, but you will not be able to use your blaster on an enemy on the other side.
- Torbjorn does damage, but not as much damage as his turret, which cannot be damage boosted, so your time is usually best spent with another hero.
- During Torb's Overload, it can be a good idea to damage boost him due to his increased attack and movement.
- Only the impact damage of Molton Core can be boosted, so keep this in mind so you don't waste your time.
- Torbjorn is one of Mercy's greatest counters due to his turret. It is always best not to play Mercy against him if it can be avoided.
- If you can get behind his turret while it is targeting someone else and take it out, this is a good use of your blaster, but it is not recommended because someone else will always be better suited for that job.
- Molton Core can be extremely dangerous to Mercy, especially if she is close to the rest of her team. It is best to avoid being to close to your team if up against a Torb because he will likely target large groups over small ones when ulting. If you happen to get trapped by Molton Core, it might be a good idea to use Valkyrie to escape it, but only if you are winning the fight.
- Tracer is a highly mobile and self-sufficient hero, she is low-priority for healing, but can be a very good damage boost target in certain situations, like when she is going to use Pulse Bomb. However, most of the time, she should be ignored altogether unless necessary.
- Tracer can make Mercy's life a living hell. You always have to watch your back. Flicking your camera back and forth between in front of you and behind you is a really great habit to pick up, especially when the enemy team has a Tracer. When against her, you will want to stay closer to your teammates, rather than far away.
- Staying on high ground is the best way to deal with an annoying Tracer. She has no upward mobility, so staying up high means she has no way of getting to you quickly. By the time she does find you, you can use Guardian Angel to quickly escape.
- Widow's fully-charged shots make her the best long-ranged hero in the game. Mercy's damage boost makes her able to make the most out of shots that aren't fully charged. If your Widow is good, it might be a good idea to stick close to her to make sure she gets the picks that are necessary to turn the fight in your favor.
- A good Widow will almost always be on high ground. This makes her a good target for Guardian Angel when you need to escape.
- A good Widow will kill you as soon as she sees you. When against a Widow, you should always stay in cover, and try not to fly out in the open.
- An isolated Widow is almost always a great target for your blaster while in Valkyrie. However, you want to make sure she doesn't spot you before you can get the jump on her. Try to be stealthy and go behind her while her sights are set elsewhere.
